What is Rounding Up for Good?
“Rounding Up” is a non-profit organization that works to improve Israeli society by means of an intelligent mechanism that enables anyone in Israel to donate a small amount and by doing so to accomplish a lot. The idea is extremely simple. Rounding up the bill and donating small amounts that together turn into a large one with practical and powerful social results. The designated amount for the donation is only 4 IS so that everyone is able to give more and to help Kesher benefit from stable and secure support. “Round Up Israel” was established in 2008 by Orney Petruschka, Jacob Burak and Yehoshua Agassi with the goal of expanding the circle of philanthropy in Israel. Round Up Israel is part of an international initiative and is the a pioneer organization in implementing the Round-Up model. It is joined by organizations in Holland, France, the U.S. Australia, South Africa and Brazil.
How Does It Work?
Rounding Up’s method is simple: You make purchases with a credit card and round the amounts up. The difference goes to the organization that you chose. In this way, you can donate a lot all of the small change that accumulates in your account to the cause that is truly important to you. If you are a salaried employee, you can also round up your monthly salary and donate a number of shekels each month to a cause that you find meaningful. Remember, even a few agorot each time turns into a significant donation and encourages activity and social change in the field.
The Criteria for a Round Up Donation
The organizations and non-profits that collaborate on the “Round Up for Good” project were chosen after careful screening by a public committee headed by the former President of the Supreme Court, Judge Meir Shamgar. In addition, like the other organizations working with “Round Up,” Kesher meets the criteria of the “seal of standards of effectiveness” that certifies that the organization reaches maximum social benefit alongside public transparency and sound, effective management.
